Patchwork Denim Bag)
Reclaimed denim and repurposed textiles
Yakubu’s patchwork denim bag is an extension of his engagement with oysters as symbols of resilience, concealment, and ultimately regeneration. The bag’s physical density and painstaking fabrication, one square of reclaimed denim at a time, reference the oyster’s own slow process of growth, each layer built upon the layer before. The final form, substantial and durable, bears witness to each successive stage of growth, while safeguarding the valuable contents held within.
